Re: ATP Masters 1000: Cincinatti
It looks like Dimi is back.
He beat Simon with ease, judging by the score.
Annaoyed with Paire who served for the match against Coric and managed to lose.
Kyrgios beat Pouille, too, with the second set looking close.
Only one match watchable today - Gasquet-Mannarino.
I can't believe Murray, Nadal & Nishikori are playing so soon after Olympics.
Looks like Murray has his eye on attacking number one position.
In his dreams....

I said Murray will never reach number one......And I stand by it....unless Djoko gets badly injured of course.

Re: ATP Masters 1000: Cincinatti
At last, some exciting matches!
Dimi-Stan
Tomic-Nishi
Nadal-Coric
Murray-Anderson
Cilic-Berd
Berd has hired Ivanisevic, which shows he is still dreaming of a slam, good on him!
If Cilic could do it, so can he.
Dimi played a tight 3 setter against Feli yesterday, so not sure how much he'll have left in the tank for Stat, but it's my no 1 match today. I may even put a tenner on Dimi.
Last time I saw him play in Toronto, he was really good.
Tomic-Nishi...I want the impossible to happen - for Tomic to improve his footwork and have a lobotomy...is Hewitt still his coach/adviser? That is his only hope. Such talent must not go to waste. Please.
Coric beat (read: ground) Paire and Kyrgios, but Nadal is a grinder himself. Should be interesting as Coric has already beaten Nadal a few years ago in Basel....

Great decision for Nadal to play Cincy, that's the sort of smart scheduling which will help him for the USO!!

He should just go to New York now and take intermittent ice baths for a week, or there will be a repeat of this nonsense in USO.

Re: ATP Masters 1000: Cincinatti
The problem with Nadal is that his game is obsolete. Nothing to do with schduling and all that. Nishi, Nole and many others have no problem handling his spin and that makes him so much more vulnerable.

Re: ATP Masters 1000: Cincinatti
The problem for Nadal is he is aging. Nothing else has changed that much - the opposition is definitely weaker now than 2006-2012, but he is now out of his prime and his one dimensional game is suffering for it. His A game defending tactic is very hard to beat - and in modern conditions on clay, extremely hard.
All players come to this point. One dimensional defenders before all others. Federer reached this point a long time ago. Djokovic seems well on schedule.

It's good to see Dimi finally playing well again...and he is not the only "youngster" in Cincy who is doing well.
Are we going to see a big change in the top 10?

Re: ATP Masters 1000: Cincinatti
I saw a few points of that match.
Tomic was brilliant, made Murray run all over the place, both with the speed of his flat shots and wonderfully soft hands & dropshots.
Murray looked like Nadal squared in terms of his court coverage and fitness. His returning was very good, though and that made the difference, I think. Just put extra pressure on Tomic.
I hope Tomic continues to work hard and does not lose focus. Great player.

Murray vs Cillic final.
Dimitrov chokes yet again! May as well hang up your racquet with such a paper thin mentality.

How did he choke? Not easy not to choke when one has great shots. It's easier on the mind when margins are bigger and Cilic is a tall guy, dhbh....hence with bigger margins.

Re: ATP Masters 1000: Cincinatti
That 3rd set was a choke. Can't recall a great shot in it! He was a break up! Was harsh on the 2nd because of the crowd. Cillic didn't do anything special in that 3rd.
One thing having great shots and one thing executing them.

It's at 11 pm, so I may have a look.
Don't you watch tennis for the pleasure of seeing someone lose?
Mind you, Murray is not as good as Nadal even in that department....
Such a turn off.

I don't mind Cilic. He goes for his shots. And he usually can play on US courts.

Actually he is pretty close...c'moning opponents netted sitter FH is the pits.
Simply nothing about him is likable.

Can't say I watch players to lose NITB as the flipside is wanting the other player to win which is where enjoyment is derived. If it's the case of picking between 2 players I have little interest in, I don't bother watching
A lovely compromise.

Murray the tank engine. Some of the shots, embarrassing.
Some of the umpiring last couple of days, poor.

Yes, it's annoying to watch it. He attacks with about 3% of hs shots. The rest is all percentage stuff.

Re: ATP Masters 1000: Cincinatti
Cilic with a fantastic result.
Murray playing like a loony over the last month is catching up with him. It's the whole sprinting in a long term race. I do wonder if he has enough in the tank to finish the season strongly.
What is good to see is players taking their chances when the top players underperform.

Our site was shut down just when Cilic provided the goods.
Well done on Cilic. Murray was tired at the end but that was due to his excess running/retrieving.
As Koenig said, Cilic has been injured a lot. He can do damage if he keeps healthy.

Re: ATP Masters 1000: Cincinatti
Basically Cilic blew Murray off the court and made him run like mad in the process. Very 1D but it worked.
Was fun to watch
Murray's game is so energy consuming and his shots esp the FH, despite getting better, will never be good enough to attack naturally.
Again, draw becomes an interesting topic before USO.
Was Delpo as Nole's first match in Rio a coincidence?
I think not.

Re: ATP Masters 1000: Cincinatti
I don't think it was 1D from Cilic. He was quite patient at time and picked his moments to attack when needed and ventured to the net too quite often.
I liked what I saw though Murray was not at his best......cause he simply asks/expects too much from his body. ....less from his guts!

It was a bit 1d...just baseline, hitting the ball as hard as possible.
Visually too linear. Nothing sweet and creative.
But, he's always been like that.
Watching Murray run provided all the enjoyment for me.

Re: ATP Masters 1000: Cincinatti
By 1d I don't mean going for broke, just having no plan b.
I preferred his early game, he used be soft-footed, played inside the court...before the tour ground to a halt and became this melting pot of muscle and spin.
But of course it is good that he didn't panic...I saw that which is why I thought he'd win....and yes, put £5 on it mid match!
