Can Federer Win Wimbledon?
Can Federer Win Wimbledon?
After his match yesterday he said:
"The bar is naturally lower. Just because I need to first feel like I’m free with everything—my mind, my body, my game, whatever. So, there’s so many things to work through it.
I'm getting there. I'm happy that I’m getting more and more info every match I play. Now, I think it was clearly really good for me that I played Stuttgart ... Now I feel, after the first round [and] after having played last week, actually maybe something is really possible here.
I don’t want to get too carried away, but I feel like if I serve the way I did today and I’m able to step it up just a little bit on the return from the baseline, all of a sudden I’m dangerous for anybody.
I mean, the hope before Stuttgart and Halle was that, number one, I can play both. I was considering skipping one of them, probably Stuttgart first. That was all achieved by now, having played both tournaments. And then I said if I can play two to three matches in Stuttgart, that’s already really good. And then if I can play a couple of more here, maybe, that’s great.
So, basically I already achieved my initial goal from two, three, four weeks ago ... I hope I’m going to be good at Wimbledon when it starts."
Basically, he sees himself ready and that only means he feels a contender.
PROS: despite injuries, his body is fresher than last year when he made the final, he is seeded number 3, so a good draw could help him. It's leap year
CONS: he will feel a bit of pressure knowing this maybe his last realistic chance to win it. He will quite possibly have to beat both Murray and Djokovic.

Re: Can Federer Win Wimbledon?
i havent really seen him play so its hard to say
i also think that he doesnt have enough matches under his belt which could make him very vulnerable especially in the earlier rounds i.e that loss to thiem last week where he actually had match points
i would love to see him make another final but i think he will need some luck with the draw for that to happen
i would love it even more if he could win but the way his age is catching up with him, thats wishful thinking lol

I have no worries for the first week. He is just so good for anyone bar Nole atm.
The grass will be fresh and he is serving well.
Interesting to see whose half of the draw he falls in.

I didn't see any tennis today...but didn't exoect Fed to lose to Zverev.
He beat him convincingly quite recently...on clay!
Not sure what is going on with him.
The little I saw of him in Halle his BH was exquisite, yes a bit heavy on his feet, late on quite a few FHs, is that match rustiness?
You never know with him, he has so much skill and experience, it can all click into place in Wimbledon.
...
Saw this interview with him, nice!

"...But I love tennis in such a big way that I don’t care if I don’t win so much any more. For me that is irrelevant.”
Something fans usually don;t understand. They can't stand their champion to lose to anybody.

Fed being diplomatic there.
Sure he wants to win Halle and it is relevant.
I don't mind him losing to new players at all, as far as it's not Djoko.

Of course he plays to win....but he can cope with losses easier cause the love of his game is simply bigger.
That's exactly what annoyed me with Pete....it was all about winning. He did not care whether his wins were boring to death all the tennis world!

So Djoko is the new Pete then? Killing us all with boredom
Guess Fed will push this year somehow till WTF, and then count the beans and decide what to do for 2017.

Yes...the unquenchable thirst for the ball and undescribable joy when you hit a great shot.
He is one very, very lucky man to be able to pull off so many!
I've been thinking about it...how much a body is quicker than the mind in tennis (the "thinking" part)...and he has been given one fine body.
I wonder if you can measure that physical talent...the unit of hand to eye coordination.
Or is it an unsearchable, quantum quantity?

Yes, but when did he bring any watching joy to anyone?
A very overrated player.

Good question. I'd say difficult.
For instance what is the max beats a drummer can make in one minute. You'd think the more the more talented. But the other measuring factor would be how regular those beats are. And in tennis another important factor would be how to close can you copy someone else beats...as timing is partly imposed by the opponent.

Yes...and then there is instinct.
Now, that is what confuses things additionally.
I went to a very interesting and fascinating lecture on dreams when I was in Belgrade.
The origin and role of our imagination that fills out large holes in our perception.
And instinct would be somewhere there.
What makes you go for one shot as an instinctive player?
And that shot is always the right one I think! Just that we can execute them as much as we'd like.
And that's where hand to eye coordination comes into play...the deadly combination of instinct and consistency.
Because if you are playing reactive tennis, there is very little room for instinct.

And to add to the above post, in Federer's case his body/talent i.e. hand to eye coordination is (almost) everything.
It's amazing how rare it is in sport in general.
In tennis, it is is tested to the limit as emotions interfere, too.

Gotta go no. The only way he will do it is if he gets a VERY generous draw. If he comes up against Thiem or Djokovic or even Murray, he'll likely be toast. He's unlikely to make it to the SF this year on the form I've seen. Odds of winning... 20/1.

Re: Can Federer Win Wimbledon?
Not stupid, but I don't think he will not be in his usual winner mood, 4GS a year even he knows it's BS, so a QF/SF is enough, he can quit playing today and still be ranked no:1 for AO 2017.
Fed can still be blown away by anyone in a fighting mood.
Andy will be beaten & bruised by Lendl in the Gym before the W to man him up a little.

I think Federer will fight like never before this year.
Though, he looked so sad leaving Halle.
Every loss now is killing him.

I think like Nadal, Djoko will struggle in the first week. If he gets through that first week....not sure who can beat him.

Hey Jahu. What was going down on v2 last night? Saw you'd posted a load of topics on your new user, although these have all been deleted by the looks of it. Is JHM working to clear your name then?
By the way, have you seen that Temp has been slapped down by the powers that be at v2, so all that mod madness should be over now. Hope you can come back soon, as it's not the same without your anti-Djoko jibes.

Hey Aut0
Yeah I spammed last night, though I mentioned JHM, I dont know for sure was it him or LF who as ban massages said behave for a week and ban will be taken.
Since ban massage does not have the mod name, not sure who said it, so anyway JHM being a senior there, I mentioned his name.
JHM does not need to clear my name, just unban me, as I got banned by that Tempo weirdo for making LK quit v2 which I was not even posting that moment.
Yes I saw mods were slapped, but Global Image of Jahu has been tarnished on ATP tour-istic forums
Will spam when time on hand till JHM swallows his pride a little and unbans me
I'm behaving here with Djoko crap, see this "noleisNOTthebest" of a lady just sugarcoats every my critique of Djoko, soothing my nerves
Have fun

It looks like you only like v2 because posters are gagged from saying anything negative about Murray or Nadal.
Obviously "powers that be" are fans of the two.
Anyone with any spark and wit is culled.
Sport is "clean" and everyone is "a great person". I wish I could tranquilise my mind like that sometimes...

The "mod madness" is not going to be over. V2 is full of idiots in the admin and mod depts and nothing can fix it except having someone with a brain in charge. Not happening. Temp will continue the same as always - aided and abetted by the closed minded dictators there who put him/her in charge in the first place. Good luck.

I'm not saying v2 is perfect, far from it. However, there are signs that it is moving in the direction after a dodgy period of excessive modding.
NITB, you totally misunderstand my post and then make wild assumptions about me. If I only want to hear positive views, why would I bother coming here? I like to debate with those that I disagree with.

Well, that's good to hear.
I don't enjoy debating per se, prefer to learn from other people's observations.
It's fun to watch & comment on matches together or immediately after, then you can compare different perceptions and observations.
I have learnt so much like that.
I do understand you dislike Tenez's fitness mission, but he is just frustrated with how it has changed tennis.
I am sure you can agree with that.

Re: Can Federer Win Wimbledon?
It's simply what profesional sports are about. People are there to make money. Improving talent is difficult if not impossible and unreliable as it is so much down to form of the day.......while improving fitness is possible, much easier, more reliable and is the base of the game anyway.
It's therefore no coincidence that players spend 25h a week minimum in the gym and much less on court. If you can win 12 slams having shots like djoko....then clearly shot making is not key. getting to the ball and lasting is!
