when it mattered, Murray put behind him all the ugliness that seems to propel his fighting spirit and graciously & thoughtfully congratulated Nole on his historic achievement.

I don't remember it happening before.

Mind you, nobody held all 4 slams in open era, still, it was unexpected and added beautiful sunshine to the occasion. Applause

Laver did it....and in the same calendar year!

That was so long ago I don't know how it compares to today's competition.

You yourself have said many times the pool of players was very small then.

What competition? Djokovic is currently competing in the weakest line up for decades. Laver did the Grand Slam against the opposition he was given - Djokovic couldn't win the French Open until there was no clay court player around at all.

I don't really know what you mean by weak competition. For decades?
Does it have to be that bombastic?
Also, who are the clay court players you are talking about?

He has beaten everyone on clay many times.

The argument of "warming up" is past its sell date.

We wish! He is still a boring player to watch. Like Murray.....at least Nadal had the x factor.....he was loved or hated. Djoko? who cares?

If anyone had an ugly game it was Nadal and yet millions around the world love him.
yeah not a big fan but at least he had his own style. Not a super Hewitt!

And I still disagree about running machine tag.
Sampras was the acing machine, though.
he has an ugly game. No way around that!

Of course it is. A Western media contrived & perpetuated thing. A guy from my club told me Nole is the number one player in Italy, they love him as their own.

Obviously you do!

To the extent it's making you double-faced and unable to say what you really think to other people in "real" life.

I still like him. He is great to watch. Much more interesting than the "acing machine".
