He says his wrist is getting worse and if it continues, his ligament may snap.

Probably too much muscle for his ligaments.

Surely his left wrist then?

He'd play on if it was his less important wrist surely.

I thought about the drug test of course....the only thing is that they only blood test when a player loses or wins the whole thing......maybe they test during nowadays. I must say I was very surprised to hear he was pulling out.

It is very surprising cause there was no clear indication of him struggling with a wrist injury in any of his matches at this years RG
In fact the way he was playing made me think that he was a serious contender for the title

Exactly. It is very weird.....he never cut through his first 2 rounds at the FO as easily.

But hey let's give him the benefit of the doubt.

Sorry I just can't when it comes to that guy, everything about him is dodgy I find it hard to believe anything that comes from him or his camp
I actually wish that it was true
Wouldn't it be lovely if for a change his karma caught up with him and he was genuinely injured

If it really is an injury (and it had to be a bad one for Nadal to pull out after such a successful start in first two rounds), then Federer's slam record is safe.

We know Nadal has been playing with knee tendonitis for years, so this has to be serious if it is an injury and not  a silent ban.

I read a funny comment in a Serbian website:

"Guys, brace yourselves for a more serious press-conference!"

Anyway, shock news.

Federer's record was safe anyway. I cannot see nadal or Djoko catching him.

Too late. Neither Djoko or Nadal have dominated for so long and the new gen is on its way.

With this injury, Nadal is definitely out of the picture.

With Nole - not impossible but very difficult.

He has a clear run this year and possibly next.

After that (he'll be 31) he'll start to feel it physically unless his FH becomes wild and loose with age.
(I am not writing it off!)

Murray will always be there ready to pounce if anything goes wrong and as for the young players, I feel the actual experience of playing in second week of slams is more valuable to them than results.

Just being able to get as far as possible and see how a SF tests the mind and body.

That's where first Fedal and then Nole have cashed in all their slams.
You could see how long it took Nole to break through!

So it will be tough for current youngsters.

Troicki said he knew nothing about Nadal's injury but that there were rumours around the locker room his wrist was badly swollen and that he was getting injections.

It's tempting to think of a silent ban, but them again - he was just starting to play better and gain confidence.

We'll probably never know the full story esp as Toni&co have been dodging the truth in the past.

As things are - it's hard to imagine him play til the rest of the year, though he is "scheduled" to carry Spansh flag in Rio.

It sums Spaniards in a nutshell...must be the dirtiest nation in sport starting with Juan Antonio Samaranch...

I don't think it's a silent ban, but it does sound like more nonsense from Nadal.  A guy with a wrist injury would not be demolishing 2 pros in a Slam beforehand (he says that it started days ago).  That's not how injury  works.  When I had the slightest niggle in my wrist, it was impossible to be competitive and that was at total amateur level. He's actually talking to reporters about his wrist breaking. He's full of shit and so are his fans.

That would be just brilliant!

If he could play someone as annonymous as possible, which atm looks like to be Ramos...and that someone to give him a w/o.

So the whole world can see it's the Act of God! Bubbly

So wining RG without Nadal playing, kind of a does not count for Djoko?

Like he gives a toss, but somehow I feel this ain't Djokos RG

Do no, he does not seem into almighty kick a$$ form he was last 3y.

Maybe Andy's time to win it, now that would be a monster  zen

And Djoko being an emotional big ear git that he is, I bet he is feeling this RG has lost its shine a little, tainted GS, not that he would mind getting it.

Maybe a super good Final can make this RG worth it.

So you want Đoko to get this RG?  cupid

Fed had his chances and didn't take them.

Instead, he was Nadal's best pal happy for him to take his 9th RG.

It's going to be very hard for Nole to do it, but if he pulls it off, he deserves all the glory.

That's even worse...which means Wilander was right.

Mirka is wearing the trousers.

But at least she is letting hm play tennis...sitting in the castle counting all the money AND eating bread and honey.

Jahu,
how come you are suddenly saying nice things about Nole?

I am worried!

That aside, as Fedal are riding into sunset and we are beginning  to miss even Nadal, what do you think about their relationship?

Even if their "friendship" was fabricated, Federer made it look quite convincing.

Federer is not stupid, yet he had such weakness for Nadal.

Was he in awe of Nadal being able to beat him at will almost?

And if so, shouldn't he have been colder towards Nadal knowing where all the power came?

However you look at it it's really gutless.

Where was the nice thing about Nole? Don't sugarcoat every word of mine now, easy girl easy, by the typing mistakes you made (now corrected), I can sense some lack of caffeine on you   Laugh

That aside too, I think the Rafa visit to CH on the plane and Fed taking him around city on the Merc, was pushed by Nike, but sure having the endless 1 & 2 tennis player on Nike, they spared nothing.

Personally I think, once Djoko started beating them c.2011, they got a little more naturally friendly with each other as to how to get rid of this Fake Prince of Monaco called Djoko.

Not in awe (maybe a little), Fed just knew that Nadal will break his body fast and Fed can still carry on playing, which till recently Fed being No:2 kind of came true, so Nadal demolished himself and became a part-time player with months off-months-on and Fed kept collecting a trophy here and there.

We had a "discussion" on that topic here a few months ago...so I won't bring up the details again...

It was my reaction to your opposition of Nole winning a calendar slam just because Fed didn't...as if Nole stopped him...

But anyway...it's weird to see Fedal fade away, I really thought they'd last for ever!

That rivalry was fake and heavily fabricated yet it took popularity of tennis to levels it will be difficult to repeat.
Federer made Nadal not the other way round.

And Nole like pig on the middle, an awesome trio in so many ways.

In a way I look forward to seeing the fnal score, when they all finish their careers.

I admit I can't imagone Nole not playing.

Yes, I think we can say from 2004 to say 2020 when Djoko-Andy probably fade, has to be a magic generation, bit of a quadro-monopoly, but have defo brought tennis back to top of sports, so will be 16y of mostly amazing tennis, but still worries me who will be left to lead the top 5 in a few years, not much new quality blood.

Of course I oppose to Djoko wining all 4, and I hope no one ever does it, it would be a sad year for tennis and also show that tennis has fallen badly to have a baseline returner with 0 net play and no special shot or skill, wining all 4 GS.

Now you as a fan can still keep his pic on your LV wallet, but dreaming is free smiley

I know I am biased when it comes to Nole, but he is certainly a lot more than a road-runner.

He has improved so much in the last two years - a very intelligent player with a great variety of shots now.
Plus he is as fit as a fiddle.

I was watching him against Agut today, his BH slice has got bite, FH sharp when taken early...he goes down the line, serves with excellent precision, all kind of consistent lengths, angles...that's modern tennis.

His BH is better in real life than on TV - amazing shot.

He doesn't play old-school tennis, but this technology allows him to.

In a way it's a shame nobody is able to push him more so he can show all he's got...

I used to think he was a "lower" player because he doesn't attack full on, but I have learnt to love his aggressive, defending tennis, it's heroic to refuse to lose, not cowardly.

noleisthebest wrote:I know I am biased when it comes to Nole, but he is certainly a lot more than a road-runner.

He is a lot more ....but they all are. What makes him better and different than the rest is his road-running. Without it, he'd lose many more matches and his shots woudl not be distinguished from the rest of the field. In fact he'd struggle to be a top 10ner.

This faculty to be so light on his feet, allows him to return better, get on the ball quicker and therefore gives him that extra split second to still play a safe, even dictating shot....and more importantly forces his opponent in going for too much. Like Nadal and Murray, he relies on those tense moment, pressure points to force his opponents to go for too much.

His shot making is actually poor. Yes you will say he pull great shots but they all do. It's not his great shots that wins his match. The difficulty is to play well (not too well) but well enough for 3 sets.

Djoko is the new Nadal. There is no way around that! He is just a better version.

And Agut was not going all guns blazing...very smart too...but the difference between those 2 is again the mouvement. Agut has a better FH, Djoko better BH.....but besides that? mouvement is the real differenciator, especially since Agut has got the better shots in general (bar serve and BH).

Bottom line, Nole doesn't play instinctive tennis.

Watching him now, his shot selection is flawless. And what's more important he can execute them.

And of course, feet are crucial there.

Djokovic isn't sure to win this tournament either. Thiem or Goffin have an excellent chance, as do Wawrinka / Murray.

His gamestyle is actually quite kind to his body, compared to most players.

He des not run down every ball, as I said, those are a max 5% in a match.
His body is light so it can sustain more than most. And he does not have big muscles like Murray or Nadal.

He actually controls the baseline, I am sure he runs less than his opponents in every match now.
Feel free to check.

His opponents are those that are mentally stressed trying to put a ball past him.

Yes, but that "everything" is only a fraction in a match.

If he really was playing like that all the time it would be unsustainable just like it's unsustainable to play an all out attack non-stop like D. Brown.

He has mastered the conditions, that's all.

Yes, but that "everything" is only a fraction in a match.
An ace is even a smaller fraction in a match.

If he really was playing like that all the time it would be unsustainable just like it's unsustainable to play an all out attack non-stop like D. Brown.
That's the very point....it is even less sustainable for everybody else.

He has mastered the conditions, that's all.
That's all he could master really, I cannot say he masters shots better than the rest of the tour.

I appreciate you are defending him. His record is impressive, no doubt. His game isn't.

Likewise, Nadal's record is even more impressive, his game never impressed me either. Same thing. He is just a better version of Nadal. More energy efficient without teh x factor.

I pass!
