Yep...not surprised. Typically he woudl have played Tuesday.

I think what hurt him is actually stopping playing due to his knee op.

I don't understand why he keeps turning up at tournaments when he is not fit to play.

Once is kind of understandable, but this must be the 3rd or 4th tournament.

I was very surprised when he said he was going to play in Indian Wells, so soon after the knee surgery.  It made me wonder whether he actually had one in the first place.

When he finally played in Monte Carlo, he looked fresh and fit, just a bit rusty.

Ant then all this media circus in Madrid...and now possibly in Rome.

Are sponsors putting pressure and if so, isn't he big enough to say no?

I understand he loves fans and all that, but he is hurting himself this way. He is a roaring competitor not a parade show-horse.

It looks like he will play.

Just look at this clip, posted 10 mins ago. Totally crazy!

https://amp.twimg.com/v/69bbbe22-828c-4068-a4f6-681acd72d26d

I have never seen any other player have such presence and awe-inspiring atmosphere around him.

I remember in O2 14 when he walked in for the SF match vs Stan...I was blown away by an almost militant salute.

Who says tennis is just a game... Winking

of course sponsors and TDs need him. He is a professional tennis player. He is there to raise money. It does not bother me. I just put £20 on Zverev! Winking

Though I might lose them...cause with his experience he shoudl be able to get through. The only thing that made me go for it is that any back glitch and Zverev serve will be devastating.

I put £20, too.

I remember first time I put momey on Nadal and found myself rooting for him. I was disgusted with myself.
Totally soul-destroying.

How do you cope?

LOl! I have often done that. Cause that was always a consolation when I prefered player lost ...and if he'd win I'd did not care that much about the money.

I'm the same...it's a win-win situation, esp as Zverev is not that terrible.
Quite an interesting/mature player for someone of his age and background.

I found only Coric to be a turn-off in this 18-22 generation.

Zverev stands so far back though. Fed really exploits that.

Fed is standong further back on his returns, too.

Did you notice the size of his calves?

Fed is really schooling Zverev. The control he has on his volleys is becoming ridiculous.

Zverev is frozen in awe, he can't even serve as usual.

He must be still waking up to the reality he is playing with Maestro.

Zverev is discovering that his safe play is not enough against Federer.

Also, he's lost the little confidence he brought to this match.

You're right about Fed exploiting his court position.
His BH slice is such a weapon.

Some of Federer's defending is pure art.

I liked Fed's drop-shot return winner to earn his first break against Zverev.  But you could see in that match already that Fed was trying to avoid running as best he could.

having said that, Nadal at 4.0 to win the French is surely tempting. So is Murray at 9.0

Will Nadal make the 4th seeding for RG?

If not it will be interesting to see whose quarter he falls into.

I reckon Murray's.

I don't think the French Open messes much with draws. They woudl mess with balls and other things but draws not so sure.
