Yes, it's him.
I like him. Unconventional game and no silly cross-court "rallying".
But swiching to Nadal-Nishi.
Nishi must win this one in two easy sets.
Anything less will be a failure.

I have been saying that nadal has ben playing well in those last 3 matches. Not sure Trump thinks about it. I know he will be reluctant to say he plays better than before until he wins another slam but frankly he is. Problem is so are the others.

He is demolishing him at will unlike Nishi who is feeding Nadal short balls and cowering.Tenez wrote:what do you mean?noleisthebest wrote:You can say what you like about Nole, but he is an absolute daddy for Nadal.
He had two BPs for 4:1 and managed to lose the set.

disappointing again from Nishi. His game is too sharp...hence too fragile. That's the difference between him and Djoko. Djoko has always the option to run the miles and take kill Nadal's legs and arm in teh process. Nishi has to execute perfect shots. Much tougher on the mind.

No, Djoko sends consistent deep balls all the time... he makes Nadal, run not the other way round.
Nishi plays too many balls down the middle, and his CC ones are shortish so Nadal returns them with interest and then Nishi's on the backfoot going for broke...Imauppose it all goes back to his serve to a degree.
Why doesn'the always play like he can!
Looks like tires from attacking quickly.

Nadal's forehand down the line at 15-30 5-4 first set was stunning; lovely performance overall. And no Tenez, he's obviously still not close to his best, one win doesn't mean everything.
Nishi was very fragile !? He's a great player but has to improve his mental focus if he wants to win slams.

You can't make Nadal run without doing the running. That's one reason Nishi plays down the middle. Djoko always has to put the miles down to beat Nadal. ....Certainly this Nadal.noleisthebest wrote:Tenez wrote:disappointing again from Nishi. His game is too sharp...hence too fragile. Playing 4m behind the baseline?
That best is not enough any more...what he is doing now is much more difficult (and better).
But he'll never shake his old FH with the same grip. This is as good as he will get with it.
It must be very mentally demanding to have to put so much muscle on the ball standing close to the baseline.
Simply not natural.

Remember USO 2013, Nadal hit the most forehand winners in the whole tournament. And he also drew a lot of forced errors with huge forehands down the line. Imagine that now lol, his forehand is more likely to have the most unforced errors in the tournament.

He simply is not as attacking now, I'm sorry, his forehands drop shorter and when he does try and attack he is more prone to making errors.
You talking about objectivity is hilarious !! You once saw Nadal hit a hotdog lob, and you said that players in your club could probably replicate the shot. Nadal could do anything and you would be critical, unless he started to regularly lose to your hero in Grand Slam finals.

Re: Masters 1000: Indian Wells
He can't attack as he has less time to strike his spin loaded FH being closer to the baseline and dealing with faster balls.
Players like Federer (who even half-volleys from there) take the ball so early it completely befuddles the opponent with the speed of exchange and only very few can cope with from standing on the baseline.
It's a different league playing on the baseline and taking the ball early.
Nadal can't do it, and that's the only reason why he can't attack from there.
Only when he creates time by moving the player away wide (which in his case requires many extra shots or a super serve) - can he pull a "winner".
In the past, when he was reigniing from the back of the court, he had more time on the ball. But things have changed. Now that everyone has improved in several ways (fitness, ball timing, experience, more shots) he can't survive there.
His only solution was to try and come closer to the baseline, and he has done a good job as this was a very difficult thing for him with that grip in particular, but as he lacks proper ball striking talent, ie he can't take the ball early - he can't control play from there - and he never will.
Now is his chance to show the world and tennis fans his talent if he has any. Muscle is not enough any more.
Which answers the talent question on the other thread.

Did you watch Nadal in 2013 ?
He was taking the ball on from the baseline, and not only that, he was changing directions with the huge DTL FH at will.

You are really blind. Do you want to see how much faster were rallies v Nishi yesterday compared to USO 2013? I reckon at least 10%!

We've had a big debate over the speed of rallies, and I did some research into it and found that it had barely changed since 2007; remember my thread with all the stats ?
Also the quality of that USO 2013 is miles better than yesterday's match, as you can see if you watch the link you provided.

And again, you are ignoring the very fact that in 2013, Nadal was still 4m behind the baseline on returns....an improvement from 5m certainly but nothing like taking the ball inside the baseline lilke he did yesterday.
And Djoko 2013 was a shadow of what he has been the last 2 years.....so the quality of USO 2013 is only making Nadal look good. Nowadays, he cannot afford to only "look" good. He has to be! or he is being made to look Djoko's poor man.

It's not what you and I think....it's what it is.
It's too early to say whether he can keep playing like he did this week. But his level this week is as good as I have ever seen him. And I do not have a particular interest in saying so. It;s just what you and I can observe. Even the commentators on Sky were saying he is twice as good as last year.

I don't find any match where over 50% of the points are unreturnables or aces that interesting, but in terms of skill, I appreciate Federer, the fact he can serve as well as he does from his height is incredible. For Raonic it's much easier !Tenez wrote:
