Re: Davis Cup 2016
Has anyone been watching Davis Cup this weekend?
I haven't seen any, but looks like it was very interesting yesterday:
Serbia-Kazakstan 1:1, Troicki complained of slow surface and dead balls, apparently they used the same old one from 2010 and painted it to death...plus after Nole finished his match, everyone left, so Troicki had to play Kuku in half empty arena where the Kasaks were louder than the Serbs.
That does not surprise me, as it's not the first time it's happened.
Serbia is one big suburbia when it comes to tennis.
It really is a miracle we have such world class players.
Nole playing doubles with Zimonjic today.
Berdych beat Zverev in 5 sets, same as Goffin vs Coric.
Looks like the teenagers are beginning to muscle their way in.
Japan GB 1:1, France 2:0 vs B team of Canada...in Guadalupe!!!
Italy cruising vs Z team of Switzerland. Which is actually quite annoying as we have such dull ties now with Swiss team featuring players who can't even qualify for challengers...
Yanks edging Australia 2:1.
I predict Serbia - France final.

No. Did not see any of it....and probably won't intend to.
It's been pretty dead tennis wise. I am following Quimper...that's how bad it is.

Well, Quimper is not bad at all, I know Rubi is playing for the final today, hopefully it hasn't already finished

Re: Davis Cup 2016
hehe, can't remember last time I watched tennis at my desktop...sitting on a chair!
Serbia-Kazakhstan, doubles 0:1.
I know Golub is Russian but this Medjvesov also sounds Russian!
Nole looking nervous, I reckon his eyes are still bithering him, having trouble serving looking into light.
Idemo!!!!

Zimonjic has a great BH!
I used to watch some iconic basketball matches in this Arena...and there is a great ice-rink next door....aaaaaah...those were the days...
It was cool growing up in Belgrade!

Re: Davis Cup 2016
Apparently Golub/Nedovjesov beat Federer/Wawrinka two years ago...some brilliant volleys and hands from both.
Good match!
Crowd are pathetic...sitting like zombies...only some children cheering.
I feel sorry for the players.

Re: Davis Cup 2016
Terrible match from Zimonjic...and Nole...
Zimonjic (injured for a long time this year) is too slow even for doubles now.
The Russians/Kazakhs were much better.

Rubi did.
Annoyed they didn't show that match live like they did the other semi and now the doubles
So in the final tomorrow against PHM.

You should know by now that Murray is never tired, only v Djoko. I remember that DC match v Simon at Queens last year...he was dead and burried....yetr nmanaged to run every point like the first point.

Re: Davis Cup 2016
I watched Nole-Kuku...5 sets & hours of pure sinew, grit and will.
Nole has crossed the line of being lean and is now looking thin. He needs to put on some weight asap.
Hopefully Troicki will won his match now.
It would bentragic if he squandered all the blood, sweat and tears Nole sowed today.
Tipsarevic would have collapsed under that pressure, Viktor has a bigger heart.

Re: Davis Cup 2016
It was mighty close!
The kind of match he simply could not lose.
I watched on and off.
He played terribly with little confidence, could not unglue himself from Kuku who was breathing down his neck non-stop, and was up in the match all the time.
I have no idea how he got out of it.
It was ugly and beautiful at the same time.

Re: Davis Cup 2016
Great win for Serbia.
So happy for Viktor who played under enormous pressure and won the deciding match in straight sets.
In 2013, when I saw Serbia play Czech Republic live in Belgrade he was not allowed to even watch the match like an ordinary spectator, while Nole was tested 5 hours by WADA during the doubles match just because he had the guts to speak out against ITF's boss.

Such a sweet victory for him!

yeah...for some reasons I can't even get excited enough to cheer my compatriots.
DC shoudl be played over 2 weeks, like a slam. I only get interested in the semis!

Re: Davis Cup 2016
My good mate (who works for newsweek and is just brilliant) interviewed Djoko's dad (with Djorde translating) at a restaurant in Belgrade.
Came out with some strong stuff that I will relay here.
Nitb, have djoko and his dad fallen out?

He plays better when trailing and has nothing to lose. But the main problem is his serve. That makes him fragile...mentally.

I know he is not tall, but he isn't a midget either...the serve should not be a problem for someone who can time the ball so well naturally. Ferrer is a similar size with half Nishi's talent.
When I watched him in O2 vs Nole in 2014, he had a few excellent passages of play, Nole didn't know what hit him kind of thing...but then when he levelled the score he couldn't sustain it.
So I don't know whether that's because of his fitness or lack of heart.
Maybe a bit of both.
He beat Stan and Nole back to back in 5 sets that USO 2013...so it's not that he lacks stamina.
Or maybe, there is nowhere left for him to go like with Nadal. I dunno....

Re: Davis Cup 2016
Nishi will get better and will beat the top players regularly soon. he just needs more confidence and that will come very soon as he just turned 26. he just needs to believe and he will do so when he will be clearly better than the rest.
Problem he has over Djoko and Murray is that his shots have less margins and this is why he is mentally weaker. Had Djoko or Murray needed such thin margins they'd be no different...Those 2 know they can't beat anybody with clean shots, that's why they chose the fitness path.
