Serena is such a nervous player. Without this physical edge, she woudl not have won many slams.

She clearly messed up her GS last year due to nerve.


She will probab;y win today but clearly thanks to her athletism..not her mental strength.

Serena missing sitters same as Fed did against Nole last USO.

Despite all the things that annoy me about Williams, I love the way she plays the game.

That's true, but unlike most women today, she is not a basher ho doesn't know what to do outside the baseline, but a proper player: she follows the flow of the ball, looks natural and loose in every part of the court, goes for the shots, has great serve variation.

It certainly would have been interesting to know how much less she would have won without the muscle and all that goes with it...but uneneath that coat she is a tennis player.

Serena is now way too conservative in her shots....cause she is nervous.

At least it's a competitive match!
Kerber is really just a CC basher.

Important hold for Kerber at 2 all to keep ahead and more so to make Serena nervous!

I am not supporting either but enjoy Serena's game and shots more.

Though there are still some good women players, tennis died for me when Justine retired.

And it's probably all Williams's sisters fault...similar to Nadal's influence...they pushed physical level beyond sustainability fo most and compromosed the game.

I like Kerber's fight here...

Kerber is a clear case of EPO......she ran a gruelleing 70m with change of direction after a nearly 2 hour match....but no air gasping, even a serene face on the next point.

Sure Serena is on it as well plus steroids galore.

yep...Kerber faced with the same challenge as Serena was at the beginning of the match.....sealing a "secured" win!

Kerber fails to close the match out.

It must be an awful feeling to have serve as a weapon and to be broken serving for your first Slam.

I actually wanted Serena to win....But happy for Kerb too. Good dramatic 3rd set.

Hopefully the men will bring some drama too tomorrow.

Kerber played great. Great win.. Serena didn't play any worse than any of her wins last year, but kerber refuse to fold.

Yes, this feels like the end of an era...

Hopefully a real tennis gem and flower will come again one day...somehow.
In the mantime...all we can hope for is a bit of drama...

Yes, kind of agree with that.  My feelings towards her game illustrate changes in tennis quite well.  When she started out, I did not like her game all that much and there were other players I preferred.  By now, I prefer her tennis to most other players.  But it is not her tennis that changed so much, but rather the tennis played by everyone around her.

Just like you, I just about stopped following ladies' tennis after Henin retired.
