That is so true....
I remember the days when Ferrer was a force against Murray and even Djokovic...and now...he is like a little kid compared to them.
I watched two sets of Murray-Ferrer in RG last year and could not believe how striking the physical difference of Murray's shots was...shame tv can convey it.
It really was like a senior vs a junior, and the court looked small for Murray.
Yet poor Ferru mamaged to win a set lifted by the crowd.
We could all feel the pain in his legs...

Monf - Raonic should be good, at last a match we can't predict with ease!
Will go for Le Monf, though don't mind if Mr Lada wins either.
Monf's talent deserves at least a slam final!

I think Moya is a good choice for Raonic...he needed someone light and smiling in his nervous, tense camp.
This is Monfils's match to lose on paper.
Can a leopard change his spots, though?

Monfils could have easily broken at 1:1, too conservative trying to test Raonic's BH and movement...
I am afraid that tactics won't work as Raonic is ripping all his shots.

Raonic will have his chances against Murray. Monfils can't beat Murray on HC.. He can't even make him run for long..
So for the sake of atleast some balance in the semis in both halves.. I want Raonic to win this QF.

Did Raonic REALLY need to raise his hand and interrupt Monf's servce motion before 2nd serve on a break point?...after 2 DFs ...?

Murray will beat Rao with more ease than he'd beat Monfils imo.....cause once he brings the serve back..it's going to be a one way traffic. Whereas Monfils could tire Murray.

Raonic is still mechanical (I suppose that will never change). Stiff hands, too.
Fast court actually only suits his serve, his best surface will be clay.

Clearly what Moya has brought that Ljubo did not is fitness.
Rao is much lighter on his feet....because he has much less fat than a year or 2 ago.

Better shots, better hands, better movement, it's all natural with him.
Raonic is like a laboriously and fussily arranged still nature.
Monfls should have broken him in the third game, instead he got broken himself innthe next. Too generous.
And I suppose lack of focus, which is often the problem of talented people.
Those who have little hold into it for dear life.

To me his legs look bigger than before (upoer).
Yes lighter on his feet, but still moving like a tractor around his BH.
Interesting to notice all those little changes and how they evolve a player's game and the game in general.

Their h2h is 3-3 and I won't count their last WTF meeting when Raonic was just returning from injury. Only Nadal returns from injuries like no other.
Raonic now is playing better. I would fancy his chances..

Easy. Look a picture of his face a year or 2 ago. He has no chicks anymore. His jaws are much more shaped. Adding simply muscles is not as efficient as improving your muscle/fat ratio. That's where they are all going, Djoko first.

I can see the obvious benefit - carrying less weight, is there another one? Better oxygen matabolism?
Yes, he has been scarily lean through patches of last few years.Tenez wrote:That's where they are all going, Djoko first.

Monfils and Nishikori the opposite problem:
The former is scared to go for his shots and the latter not.
Result is the same, though!
Hard to find the right balance, isn't it?

I know this would not be good for the semi, but I'd love to see these two fight&scramble for it raw in the fifth set, with Monfils winning with some crazy shot and Rod Laver crowd erupting wild!

I have always found the way to watch tennis...even when I worked as a teacher in Serbia!!!!
Would have the whole class watch it and then write an essay about it!
Totally shameless!

For a tall guy, Rao is good at picking up the short balls behind teh net. But that's much thanks to modern strings.

Professionalism is the key in Modern Pro Tennis. Its takes time to come into that zone and not all even can. The days of outbreak players winning slams is over for ever. Not possible for a young 18-19 something come up and beat everyone out there.

Raonic is much improved. If Murray allows his 1st serve % to slip he will be troubled as Raonic will pressurise him.

Nope...unless they speed up the conds...then a young great serve volleyer could have a chance...but even then, it would be very tough.raiders_of_the_lost_ark wrote:Tenez wrote:With his athletism, Monfils should be much better.....just too loose a player. Lacks professionalism...and guts at times.

And because of that players are peaking later. Before they peaked later as well but more youngsters coudl catch up earlier and that made staying at the top harder.

Yes but as said earlier....Rao's serve will also be under much more pressure than v Stan or Monfils....this is why I don't fancy Rao's chances much.

Yes, but it's a mechanical wrist, same as Nole's...except that Nole's got fire in the belly and Raonic doesn't.Tenez wrote:yep...but even his topspin FH is good close to the net and that requires a quick wrist.luvsports! wrote:He actually has a good slice for a guy who looks very clunky.
Milos is a salon boy, a tamed, sanitised bull castrated by Canadian $$$. A prim and proper character with tons of pressure from everywhere...esp from his parents looking at him like a pair of neurotic psychiatrists from the box.
It would have been better if they were a healthy pair of Chavs like Nole's mum and esp dad with that t-shirt of his son emblazoned across his chest, that's what I love! Pure fire and love.
In a way, I feel sorry for Milos. He is suffering.
Maybe one day he'll be able to release the wild Serb in him and really let rip.

But mechanical makes professional. That's what they are all trying to do/have: reliable shots! It's key!

Unless he learns to stay closer to the lines...something he shoudl do by now. At least Nishi plays close so he has guts.....but lacks confidence and panick....but there he will improve if he keeps close to lines.
