Davis Cup 2015: THE FINAL
GB-Belgium...who would have thought?
On paper David versus Goliath:
1) GB has won it NINE times. Last time in 1936, though.
Belgium - never.
2) Even physically, David Goffin looks tiny compared to Goliath Murray.
With Murray expected to win both singles ties - doubles match will be key.
Belgium helped by Llodra who declared himself as a personal friend & adviser.
Still, this is our last weekend of competitive tennis in 2015.
So, let us enjoy it and hope it's a good one.

I am almost indifferent but as there is no patriotism involved here, I'd cheer for Belgium because they play better tennis.
And for the sake of Justine Henin.

Re: Davis Cup 2015: THE FINAL
Once again, the conditions causing a travesty of tennis. Goffin clearly the better player, but Edmund able to muscle the ball past him. The fact that Belgium chose clay stinks of corruption to me. Everyone knows that Goffin would have wiped the floor with this British rabble on a proper indoor fast court.

Re: Davis Cup 2015: THE FINAL
Didn't get to see any of it...can't have been a great match if it took Goffin sets to beat Edmund...
In fact, such a B grade davis cup final line-up.
Zero charisma...more like a play off match to remain in the main group.

Re: Davis Cup 2015: THE FINAL
The court is a mudpit. Players are swimming through clay.
I saw 5 minutes, heard how Andy is a clever man whose team will need to find the way to beat Djokovic and challenge him for world number one.
The logic was - if Federer at 34 could beat Djokovic why could not Murray, too?
At which point I say good-bye...

Interesting comment. I actually think that on hard court Murray would be able to use his powerful leg more than on clay. On clay a slippery surface can take a lot of his mouvement advantage.
I don;t think it was a bad choice.

Murray is spending a awful lot of energy for the most trivial point....but he doesn't care cause 30s later.....he'll be fine!

So it's the best line up for both doubles teams.
Just saw Murray jump like an orangutan after winning the first set.
Go Belgium!

Poor volley from Goffin.
It's this kind of mistakes that will cost them DC.

Re: Davis Cup 2015: THE FINAL
You can see Goffin in strugglimg with doubles dynamics and movement, playing on the cautious side but slowly getting into it.
It's an even match, and Jamie looks like he feels inferior on the court (which he is, Andy not giving him much space).
Goffin and Murray will be exhausted tomorrow.
Ooooh, Leconte looking suave in his velvet jacket!
Maybe that's his job here...

Very nice match.
But in general, relatively poor volleying. Jamie the only one confident and going for them.

Quite likely. Goffin isn't doing much, too cautious...and silky

But they break back thanks to Goffin's great BH.
Let's hope Darcis can hold serve.
So many momentum swings...at least we have have drama!

When you watch all this fast action at the net shared between two players, you must appreciate Fed's volleying tennis even more.

I find them pretty slow at teh net.....except Jamie here. But Yes fed is probably one of the best volleyer ever.

I expected him to play better.
Belemans would have given Darcis more support on the base line as well as serve.
Even if Belgium win today, Goffin will be dead tomorrow.
Btw, I find Kim Sears and Kate Middleton almost like twins.

Well..that was my point...the pace is fast but they look inadequate and slow, B grade doubles players....hence  the comparison with Federer.Tenez wrote:noleisthebest wrote:When you watch all this fast action at the net shared between two players, you must appreciate Fed's volleying tennis even more.

Darcis looks a bit tired.
I want the fifth set!
They lost this game so cheaply...
Actually both Belgians are spent.
Goffin emotionally as well as physically.

Lots of nerves, but some very nice points in between.
Goffin finding a new lease of life.
I can"t believe they didn't break Jamie's serve from 00:40 up.
Just can't win a match like that.

You can see from that close up of Murray hiw much muscle he is putting into his serve. Same as Nadal.

Serve is key in double and Bel has the best serve out of the 3 belgos.....real strange decision....though I m not sure it would have made a difference.

Belgian coach probably wouldn't've been able to survive the press.

Yet they had (and squandered) so many chances...
Even now...Jamie winning his game with 2nd serve...
Darcis would've almost been better off by himself.

What a shot from Murray...4m behind the baseline.....well outside the trameline but a flick of the wrist turns it into a FH winner.

Re: Davis Cup 2015: THE FINAL
Just started watching...Murray serving for the first set.
I am sorry, but this is ugly. Muscle, bludgeoning, not much to do with tennis.
What can Goffin do?
Nothing. Last another set if he is lucky.
Murray wins again by an opportunistic chance.
