Tomas Berdych´s success
Congratulations to Tomas to the great win over Fed. What I have read from radio and saw in news, Berd controlled that match. Great success, he can be proud, so far that is clearly the greatest win in his career. He said all crowds behind Fed and he could close the match. Fantastic!!!!
No many players could do it.
I need to change my opinion, I would like to see Berd in the final with Nole. Just for change
Fed can miaow with Nadal about their friendship. Sorry for Fed fans, but I needed to nag into Fed here
I will bring some details from Tomas later on.

Re: Tomas Berdych´s success
Yes, a huge win for Berdych and a great one, as he said it himself in the press room. You must be very proud, Paul
I hope he brings out his A game against Murray, as well, mentally he is fine now, I don't expect any wobblyness, he is match-tough at last.
Murray will probably employ the same tactics as he did against Raonic.
Will be a very interesting match.

Re: Tomas Berdych´s success
Yes Nitb, he said that it is his best moments in career. As you said Tomas has matured, he can keep a focus on the game. That is a key. Tomas can win with Murray, but that will be more hard for him, after such a win.
Tomas can succeed with Murray, I would believe in him by 60%. Murray looks to be still mentally fragile and the crowds could cheer Berd little bit more than with Fed. Another great match ahead of us.
Now, I start to worry when Nole would play with Berd. Tomas has a game to face Nole. But Nole is a bigger fighter

It's funny, out of the remaing players I'd like Ferrer to win. ....a chance in a million!

I see it even smaller
Interisting statistics:
Federer | Berdych | |
7 | aces | 14 |
3 | double faults | 3 |
63 % | 1st serve won | 59 % |
203 km/h | serve speed | 219 km/h |
4/6 | breaks | 5/11 |
44 | winning balls | 30 |
40 | UE | 21 |
Very good serve from Berd, need to point out.

Berdych is the one I want to win after Ferrer....but likewise, it's a chance in a million.

Re: Tomas Berdych´s success
Berd has a game to beat everybody, but I am not sure if his fitness will be enough to win it. Here I have a doubt and the final is a different story although he played a Wimby final with Nadal.

Berdych has made lots of progress with his mouvement but I don't think he has the game to beat other players best games. His mouvement and reactions are not quick enough.

Me, too. I didn't realise he had positive H2H with Murray. To be a fly on the wall when Lendl gives him tips on how to handle the fellow Czech.

Is it because it's spelt similar to Federer?

Who knows? Just that I'd like to see his perseverence rewarded. I like his personality best out of the remaining players....actually Delpo first, then Ferrer, then Berdych or Djoko, Murray and last Tsiparevic.

Re: Tomas Berdych´s success
I am looking at the match now and see what Tomas said. He managed to get Fed out of his comfort and from his rhytm. That wa the key. He said I had managed to destroy his comfort.
If Federer is able to dictate the game then he is hardly beatable. He can not get time to dictate the game and play technically briliant shots.

My personal ranking of characters for all QFs:
1) Nole
Berd/Delpo (the same level now due to Berd´s win, if he did not win then he is in the group below )
Cilic/Fed/Tipsy(if Tipsy would not have tattoos then Tipsy ahead of them )
Murray/Ferrer

Easy! Berdych is not too high in my list. He went down a few echelons over the recent years.

Yes Ten, that is from a real life. Although I put Murray below Cilic, I wanted to see him in semi to face Fed, that was my wish. Nevetheless it is not bad to see there Berd instead of Fed

That's what I saying earlier, he has't got quick hands...you see this in service motion even, a bit robotic. Everything needs to be on rails with Berdych.

yes, his movement does come across a bit wooden, he doesn't have Cilic's gliding motion. I was just wondering if he could work on it.
Nole's similar there, but because he is such a great athlete and not that big, he will learn how to do it well in a year or two. He needs to take some lessons from Llodra.

Re: Tomas Berdych´s success
Murray is a UFO player. He tries so hard and many times was so close, that I had just had to wish him to beat Fed in semi.
But when I see him on the court with such a tension in his face, when looks like being pursued by Indians and with his super cautios tennis, I have sore eyes from him. No way to look at his match with Ferrer

Pursued bu Indians?
He is unbearable watch..I have never seen anyone make the game of tennis look that ugly, everything he does is grotesque
The commentators have already made me "pass the bucket" several times during this tournament..imagine how bad it will be if he were to win

Re: Tomas Berdych´s success
When looking at the Berd´s match,I am staring at it. Fed in defence, playing two slices from FH side. I have never seen it before. No wonder that he looks poor on his serve. He looks like being crashed, unbelievable.
I see that Fed bounced from the wall. He can not exert his usual pressure on a slowish surface as he could do some years ago.

Tomas has never been a great mover. I remember him at the beginning when he only stood at the base line and thrashed the ball. But he improved his move also due to playing doubles in DC, that helped him a lot. If he stands at the net he plays good voleys. I know that he has troubles with his hips from the birth. He really looks like a bit robotic

Yesterday when I saw Andy´s match in the second set at the moment Cilic was serving for the set and Ivan was taken by a camera, I was really afraid of health of them both. Both looked like being transported to Vietnam. It is not a war, isnt it?

Maybe poor Cilic saw Lendl's face and froze to death, fogetting how to play! At last!!! we know it was NOT a choke and it certainly was not a joke
Paul, how is Lenls' involvement with Murray viewed in Czech Republic, what's the view on him in general, do people like him and was he popular in his golden days? Also, how was his stony image percieved then and now?

Re: Tomas Berdych´s success
One my personal feeling related to Ivan Lendl, when I entered into the tennis hall, where there were posters of Lendl when playing in a DC match, I was like in a paradise. His legacy is huge. Lendl is wellknown as an example of a player, who got on the top by an exertion of extreme effort. He practised so much, that some players could not believe it. He did not travel to Czech many times (has 5 daugthers ),but he has always been very popular. This year he played an exhibition in Czech and it was very nice session. Tennis in the 80s was considered as an non-socialistic sport, then there were some restrictions to travel to the West. Therefore Lendl and Navratilova emigrated in USA, where they had by far better condintions to succeed. Normal people fully understood him, no wonder. I remember when Lendl was asked to coach a tennis player and he had refused it. So, many people have been surprised when it was publically announced that Lendl is Andy´s coach. His daughters have grown up

I see it straight set win. Nole is very hungry and sharp in NY. Of the remaining players he's had most success here: 4 semi finals, 2 finals, one title. Not bad

I am also quite confident for Nole. I would like to see Nole with Bird in the final for a change. To look at Murray with Ivan for about 3 hours is too long

My favourite players of the 80s. I really was a huge fan of his. He was extremely talented but his talent was not as obvious a McEnroe...but in a way he was as much talented. He certainly was able to adapt better than Mc to the evolution of the game.
